Rock House

There are countless old houses scattered through the desert like this one, just south of Bell Mountain in Apple Valley. They are now something of an attractive nuisance, a place to drink beer and shoot guns. I always find it fascinating to think how they got there in the first place. Who built them? Why? I didn't see any obvious mines or other prospects in the area and certainly no signs of water for miles. Whatever their original purpose was they suit me just fine as excellent photography subjects today.
